Legal Support / Expert Witness: Cosmetology Susan Maccoy is an actively practicing cosmetologist and experienced expert witness on beauty salon and spa products, processes, procedures, policies and standards. An award-winning professional she has held positions as a hair stylist and colorist, and has served as a hair color and style educator. She is a salon owner and has been a manager of independent and franchise chain salons. Ms. Maccoy holds current cosmetology licenses in Illinois and Florida. To date, she has been retained by the defendant in approximately 70% of her engagements and by the plaintiff in 30%. In 2011 her investigative work and expert opinions were instrumental in obtaining dismissals with prejudice in two actions, one in state court and one federal. Ms. Maccoy combines an extensive background and foundation of knowledge in cosmetology and salon business and operations with critical and analytical thinking to provide solid, informed support for litigation. As a master hair colorist, Ms. Maccoy played a leading role in the development of hi-lighting techniques using foil, and has trained professionals internationally in those procedures. As a full-time cosmetologist for over 45 years she serves a client base at her Water Tower Place salon on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue. As a consultant she has been engaged by salon product manufacturers for product development, hair color formulation, hair color marketing, salon product and service marketing, as well as professional hair color and style education. She is also the creator and developer of the ProWorks™ Professional line of hair care products and ReikiRocks Spa Products™ . Ms. Maccoy is an experienced expert witness who provides technical assistance and services in support of litigation and other legal matters. She has assisted the legal profession on issues related to the cosmetology, beauty salon and spa industry for 35 years.
